Live Animal Show with NHECM

June 8, 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

“Desert Adaptations” will present creatures with the most amazing abilities to thrive in harsh and hot climates around the world. Presented by Bob Tarter, this illuminating program displays animals with special skills and physical features that allow them to survive on unique prey, little water, and very few resources. In addition to
learning about biology, adaptations to habitat and the scientific method, audiences learn about desert habitats worldwide including Australia, the U.S. desert Southwest, Egypt, Africa and South America.

Wildlife exhibits include our new Red Kangaroo joey, as well as a return of our popular Harris Hawk and Prairie Dogs, and some new reptile friends such as our rare Gila Monsters, our Egyptian Uromastyx and our 70 lb. Sulcata Tortoise. We also plan to feature our Savannah Monitor, Chilean-rose haired Tarantula, and other “surprise” guests!

NHECM provides entertaining and educational wildlife programming for hundreds of schools and organizations throughout the Southeast. NHECM’s primary focus is on education through an appreciation for wildlife and healthy respect for their welfare and our natural world.

This program is provided as part of our children’s summer reading program, Build a Better World. The summer reading program encourages reading to children and by children during June and July to maintain their learning progress when area schools are out. Register your child for free by visiting http://bit.ly/2q3x24c and printing a reading bingo card from http://bit.ly/2r3Fbd5. You can also stop by the library. Children from ages 0-12 can particpate and there are additional summer reading programs for teens and adults. Everyoe can read and participate and win fun prizes.

The WCPL 2016 summer reading program is made possible due to the support of our Williamson County Public Library Foundation.
