    1. What are you thought about this issues?
    2. How will/is this affecting your children?
    3. Have you lost confidence in the Williamson County School Board with how this is being handled by board members?
    4. What will happen to real estate prices for homes being rezoned from Ravenwood to Centennial?

We have established this forum for parents and Cool Springs residents to share their thoughts, feelings and opinions about the Ravenwood HS rezoning by the Williamson County School Board.

Bottom line - if the schools were academically equivalent or Centennial had better academic programs than Ravenwood, there would not be this much dissent in our community.

The facts are that Centennial's academic scores are not only lower than Ravenwood's but are lower than the county averages and in several cases lower than the statewide averages as well.

Thanks Todd for creating this page!

My son is a 9th grader at Centennial and was a Honor student in Middle School. He is being pushed to the limit academically at Centennial. Centennial's diversity is more real world and if your child wants to be challenged academically they can get all they want at Centennial. We live in a neighborhood that has been re-zoned three or four times since we have lived here (10 years). Therefore I understand your frustration with this curve ball that has been thrown your way. However the things that have been printed in the paper by residents and "realtors" of the area being considered for re-zoning have been way over the top. The neighborhoods in question are basically right on top of Centennial so it's understandable why the board would make this consideration. Centennial has a large group of children that excel academically but there are others of less means that pull down the group average. These kids are not necessarily bad kids and not all are bad students. I know many parents are just trying to "protect" their kids from the so called "thugs" at Centennial but that is not what my son has experienced. The mayor of Franklin has at least one child that graduated at Centennial and I know many other children of prominent Franklin families that have graduated there. The way I see it your kids can help bring Centennial up academically and that's a good thing in the long run. Why send all the kids whose parents have the higher incomes to Ravenwood? Why not bring Centennial up and work toward building school spirit in the Cool Springs area for one school? Centennial is a good school and you shouldn't worry about sending you children there. You can't protect them from the real world forever and I'm sure Ravenwood has it's shared of bad apples.

    Dave,

I am glad that you are happy with Centennial.

    We are happy with Ravenwood.

And guess what, we actually do not have "our share" of bad apples, are not all wealthy, and certainly have no interest in moving our kids so they can "help bring Centennial up academically".

Your post sounds desperate me. For you to care about this issue without having a dog in the fight tells me Centennial must indeed have some serious problems and you are hoping a few hundered Ravenwood kids will help. Are you trying to convince us or yourself how great Centennial is?

I'm sure that many of the comments concerning Centennial are 'over the top' as the emotions involving this rezoning are pretty high. Many families researched the best schools, and moved their families and their whole lives into the Ravenwood school zone SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SCHOOL. If rezoning was going to fix the problem of overcrowding at Ravenwood, it would have fixed it already. But families will continue to move into the Ravenwood school zone, use voodoo, or whatever they have to do to ensure the educational futures of their children - by putting them in a school they believe in. All the rezoning in the world is not going to fix that problem. The only thing rezoning is going to accomplish is p*** off hundreds of voters, and inflict trauma on the lives of children. What more damage can you inflict on a teen than throw dirt on their social life? Rip them away from friends they've had since childhood? It might be different - I might 'suck it up' and allow my child to 'take one for the gipper' if I thought it was a solution to the problem of overcrowding. But it's not. Take the success of Ravenwood and recreate in other schools. Create another 'Ravenwood' or the same problem will continue to perpetuate itself. My family researched and selected this school, then ripped up our roots to move into the zone. Rezoning is not going to stop me from keeping my daughter in Ravenwood, and I imagine the same is true of other families who will move heaven and earth for their children.
