Centennial High is proud to name senior Diego Fuentes as the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2017-18 school year.

Principal Chris Hames says Diego was chosen for this honor because of his enthusiasm and hard work.

“Diego is a bright spot in the day for anyone who comes in contact with him,” said Hames. “He goes out of his way to speak to others and encourage them. He is a polite, respectful, hard-working young man who brings his best every day. It is a pleasure to work with students like Diego.”

As a senior, Diego feels blessed to have spent four years in a school where the teachers and staff genuinely care about the students.

“It has been a really good experience here for me at this school,” said Diego. “I have a lot of friends, and there’s a lot of good principals and teachers here too. They’re supportive, and they’re always there to cheer me up.”

Despite being one of his toughest classes, Diego says Spanish Literature is his favorite. When he’s not in school, Diego likes to play soccer and spend time with friends and family.

Although he’s not entirely sure what he’ll do after graduation, Diego vows to approach each day with the same attitude that has gotten him this far.

“I’m lucky to have what I have,” said Diego. “I have great schools, and I have great teachers. That’s why I want to do well. Imagine all those people who want to learn but can’t for whatever reason. I want to learn for them.”

As for winning the Academic All-Star award, Diego says he feels both humbled and gratified.

“I have no words to describe it,” said Diego. “It took me by surprise. I never expected this. It feels great.”
