Spring 2018 Group Program Registration

Each semester, GiGi’s Playhouse – Nashville offers a variety of high-quality therapeutic-based, educational, career development, and family connections programming tailored to individuals with Down syndrome of ALL ages. SAVE THE DATE for spring semester group program registration: 1/12-1/21/18! See below for spring 2018 program descriptions and schedules. Our entire list of spring 2018 group program volunteer opportunities will be posted on 1/12/18. Please watch for an email and check our website and Facebook and Instagram pages!

FAMILY CONNECTIONS PROGRAMS:

OPEN PLAY/FAMILY NIGHT (all ages): Open Play and Family Night invite families and their friends to GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville for playtime! These programs help promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome and create awareness opportunities for peers and friends, as well as support and networking for current families. Come ready for fun and a fantastic time! Open Play and Family Night are open to families with children and adults of all ages and their friends.

BUSY BODIES (recommended ages: approximately 0-5): Join our playgroup! We’re moving, grooving, and laughing along the way. Busy Bodies is the perfect place for children with Down syndrome approximately 0-5 years old and their siblings to meet new friends, learn, and grow, while parents have the opportunity to socialize and network with one another. A guest speaker is scheduled one session per month, while the other session is a casual open play format.
SAVE THE DATE! Busy Bodies Spring 2018 Schedule: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 9:30-11:00am from February-April. RSVP for any or all session(s) this spring beginning 1/12/18.

GROUP THERAPEUTIC-BASED PROGRAMS: Registration is required, space is limited, and regular attendance is highly encouraged for group therapeutic-based programs.

CRAWLERS: GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville’s Crawlers program is an interactive and engaging program for children who are learning to move and explore their world and their family members. This program supports the development of gross and fine motor skills through activities that are hands-on and fun! Social skills and language development are also addressed, with focus on learning new words, following directions, and interacting with peers. Each family will receive educational tips and tools throughout the program to support the growth of their child.
SAVE THE DATE! Crawlers Spring 2018 Schedule: 1st & 3rd Saturdays of the month from 11:30am-12:15pm from February-April. Participant registration will be open from 1/12-1/21/18.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS YOUNG ATHLETES™ (recommended ages: approximately 2.5-7): GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville is so excited to partner with Special Olympics Tennessee to offer Special Olympics Young Athletes™ (SOYA)! SOYA is a unique sport and play program for children with intellectual disabilities. The focus is on fun activities that are important to mental and physical growth. Children ages 2.5-7 with any intellectual disability enjoy games and exercises that develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination. SOYA is an early introduction to sports and to the world of Special Olympics.
SAVE THE DATE for a special 8-week spring session of SOYA to begin at GiGi’s in late March or early April. SOYA is open to children with any intellectual disability; registration will open in March. More details to come!

MUSIC IN MOTION (recommended ages: approximately 3-12): Tap into your inner rock star where every voice shines! Offered in partnership with Belmont University’s undergraduate music therapy program, Music in Motion builds self-confidence and strengthens social skills, communication, and motor skills through the therapeutic use of music and dance. This spring, Music in Motion will be offered to individuals with Down syndrome approximately 3-12 years old and interested siblings if space is available.
SAVE THE DATE! Music in Motion Spring 2018 Schedule: Thursdays from 1/25-4/26 (no session on 3/29) – Group 1 (ages: 3-6): 4:45-5:30pm; Group 2 (ages: 7-12): 5:45-6:30pm. Participant registration will be open from 1/12-1/21/18.

COOKING CLUB (recommended ages: approximately 8-12): Get cooking with your friends at GiGi’s! Cooking Club is geared toward building safety awareness in the kitchen and preparing healthy, balanced recipes that taste great. Gluten-free options will be available. Cooking Club is recommended for individuals with Down syndrome approximately 8-12 years old. Funding for this program has been generously provided through a grant from the Nashville Predators Foundation. HUGE thanks to them for believing in us!
SAVE THE DATE! Cooking Club Spring 2018 Schedule: Tuesdays from 4:45-6:00pm from 1/30-3/20. Participant registration will be open from 1/12-1/21/18.

FRIENDS, FUN, & FITNESS: YOGA (recommended ages: approximately 13+): Friends, Fun, & Fitness (FFF): Yoga promotes physical fitness and facilitates social interaction and positive peer relationships through purposeful physical activities for adolescents and adults. FFF: Yoga is recommended for individuals with Down syndrome and their siblings approximately 13+ years old.
SAVE THE DATE! FFF: Yoga Spring 2018 Schedule: 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month from 6:30-7:30pm from February-April. Participants may RSVP for FFF: Yoga any time prior to the session(s) beginning 1/12/18.

FRIENDS, FUN, & FITNESS AT CROSSFIT PRO VITA (recommended ages: 16+): GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville + CrossFit is excited to partner with CrossFit Pro Vita to offer an adaptive fitness program for teens and adults with Down syndrome (ages 16+)! Friends, Fun, & Fitness at CrossFit Pro Vita (FFF at CPV) promotes physical fitness and facilitates social interaction and positive peer relationships through purposeful physical activities for adolescents and adults.
SAVE THE DATE! FFF at CPV Spring 2018 Schedule: Every other Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm from 2/1-5/10. FFF at CPV meets at CrossFit Pro Vita: 1329 6th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37208. Participant registration will be open from 1/12-1/21/18.

EPIC (recommended ages: 18+): GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville’s EPIC (Empowerment, Participation, Independence, & Community Involvement) adult program provides opportunities for socialization and community involvement, while creating a fun and memorable experience for its participants. Participants work on vocational, communication, and social skills to boost confidence and encourage independence through goal-oriented objectives. EPIC is recommended for individuals with Down syndrome ages 18+.
SAVE THE DATE! EPIC Spring 2018 Schedule: Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30pm from 2/14-4/25 (no sessions on 3/7 & 3/28). Participant registration will be open from 1/12-1/21/18.
