Big 9 Art Bash!

Public Art Chattanooga and the Bessie Smith Cultural Center present the Big 9 Art Bash – a celebration of public art and MLK Blvd. Join us for a fun evening of artwork and performances inspired by the “Big Nine” and a very special tribute from the Booker T. Scruggs Ensemble.

Meet the artists behind the suclptures. Enjoy “Big Nine” era Jazz from the Booker T. Scruggs Ensemble. See the exhibition and the lawn of the Bessie come to life with interactive and site specific performances from The Pop Up Project. Enjoy sips and tastes from the newest to longest standing establishments along the Blvd; and stay late for an outdoor screening of the documentary, “America’s Boulevard: A mural on MLK”

Come enjoy a summer evening with artists as they take us back to another time celebrating public art inspired by the African American history, culture, and music of the “Big Nine”.

SCULPTURE by Charlie Newton, Ruth Aizuss Migdall, Charlie Brouwer, Harry McDaniel, R.L. Hughey and Debbie McNeil.

PERFORMANCES: by Booker T. Scruggs Ensemble and The Pop Up Project (Cornelius Heard, Mattie Waters, Jules Downum, Lacy Maselle accompanied by Lon Eldridge, Tyler Martelli)

TASTES from Memo’s Grill, Uncle Larry’s, Barley’s, and Oddstory Brewing Co.
