Suspect shot, killed in Williamson County officer-involved shooting

One person was killed and a deputy was hurt in an officer-involved shooting in Williamson County Tuesday.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said authorities began pursuing the driver of a stolen car who had outstanding warrants around 9:45 a.m.

As the driver went over the Interstate 65 overpass near Peytonsville Road, TBI Director Mark Gwyn said the suspect got out of the car and brandished a weapon at deputies.

A Williamson County deputy shot at the suspect, killing him. His identity has not yet been released. Authorities said the man did have an extensive criminal history.

“Anytime you have an instance like this, you have people in danger,” Gwyn said.

The TBI said neither deputy was shot but one did suffer an injury to his leg. Authorities have not yet released the names of the deputies involved.

Peytonsville Road will be closed to motorists indefinitely as the investigation continues.

Additional information was not immediately released.
