WCS Educators Earn Accolades from Tennessee Association for the Gifted

Two Williamson County educators are being recognized for their exemplary work by the Tennessee Association for the Gifted (TAG).

Lipscomb Elementary’s Linda Kirby and Renaissance High’s Meaghan Dennis were both honored at the TAG conference October 25. Kirby earned the Teacher of the Year Award for her work with gifted students. She has worked with students for more than 30 years and recently presented at the 23rd Biennial World Council for Gifted and Talented Children.

“This was one of the greatest honors I have received in my 35 years as an educator,” said Kirby. “I love meeting with my kindergarten through fifth graders each school day as they interact, communicate, collaborate and work together. Something else I enjoy is creating advanced, challenging curriculum for my students. I feel very appreciated and blessed to be selected. Williamson County is an amazing place for gifted children to grow and learn. I am glad to be an educator here.”

Dennis received the Horizon Award. This award is given to exemplary new teachers with fewer than five years of experience in gifted education.

“I am surprised and honored to have received this award,” Dennis said. “This feedback is very encouraging because it lets me know that I’m doing right by my students. I know all of my gifted colleagues work hard every day, and I’ve learned so much from them. This would not have been possible without their support.”
